In line with the development trend of the industry, China Mobile is guided by the needs of operators, and has defined a phased 5G test plan for commercial product development, and fully accelerates the commercialization of 5G products.
The first phase is the 5G key technology feasibility verification. Based on the 4G network infrastructure, the joint industry conducts feasibility verification of 5G candidate technologies, including large-scale antennas, user-centric networks, new coding, and new modulation technologies, and completed this phase in 2016. Combined with the work in this phase, China Mobile has applied 5G large-scale antenna technology to 4G networks in advance, which can improve the capacity and spectrum utilization efficiency of the existing network by 2-3 times, and has begun to deploy in the business hotspots and high-rise scenarios. .
The second phase is the 5G system proof of concept. In conjunction with the progress of the 3GPP standard, the upstream and downstream of the joint industry chain will break through the industrial bottleneck of the hardware platform and architecture, and promote the hardware capability of the 5G infrastructure. Through the laboratory and field tests of the system prototype, the design and optimization of 5G end-to-end products and the maturity of test instruments are fully promoted. Laboratory tests and field trials and demonstrations will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2017. At present, the demonstration of 5G networking capabilities and business capabilities in Shanghai and Guangzhou has been completed during the MWCS in June 2017.
In the third phase, “scale trials and pre-commercial trials” will be conducted for pre-commercial products and mature 3GPP standards in 2018-2019 to ensure effective 5G commercialization by 2020. Through the optimization iteration of the hardware platform and software iteration for 3GPP standards, the pre-commercial 5G products are launched, and the end-to-end maturity of 5G is promoted through multi-vendor, multi-network interconnection and interoperability testing of 4G and 5G. Strive to provide a friendly user experience in the second half of 2019.
